Congrats to Ambulance Wish, our newest Best of the West!

We want to extend our heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to Ambulance Wish, our latest Best of the West, announced on Sunday night on 9News! Ambulance Wish will receive $5,000 to continue their excellent work, which you can learn about in the video and article below.

Best of the West is a celebration of Western Australia’s difference makers: those using their time, talent and treasure to make a difference in their WA communities. Tune in Sunday 23rd October at 6pm during 9News to find out who will be the next Best of the West, or nominate someone yourself by following the link at the bottom of this page!

Who is Ambulance Wish?

Ambulance Wish is a charity that helps palliative care patients and those who are terminally ill to  fulfill their final wishes, at no cost to the patient or their family.

To date, Ambulance Wish has already fulfilled 10 wishes since launching in October of last year. They helped one woman named Rochelle leave ICU to attend her son’s wedding. They helped Stephanie return home to say goodbye to her loved ones.

Whether it’s allowing them to visit a place of personal significance, taking them home to admire their own garden, or bringing them somewhere to be surrounded by their loved ones and pets, it takes a lot of resources to transport someone safely out of the ICU.

The service is entirely donor-funded and staffed by an all-volunteer force of medically trained health care professionals.

That’s why winning Best of the West is so important to Ambulance Wish, and why they were the clear choice this month. The $5,000 award will allow them to perform at least a dozen more wishes completely, with enough left over to pay for some additional operating expenses.

Community-approved

Thanks to you, we received so many excellent nominations this month, but it was quotes like this that made Ambulance Wish stand out:

‘Ambulance Wish Western Australia is my nomination. They are a charity run purely by volunteers and donations that provides experiences and last wishes for people in palliative care. This organisation truly deserves the grant so that they can help many more West Australians fulfill their final wishes. Without support from the community and other grants, they would not be able to run as they do. They are truly deserving of this grant!’

Huge congrats to Ambulance Wish as well as the other deserving individuals and organisations nominated. Everyone nominated will remain eligible to be named Best of the West throughout the coming months, so good luck to them!
