Best of the West: Community Stitchers WA

We are thrilled to announce Community Stitchers WA as the 4th winner of the 2024 Best of the West competition.

This grant recognition celebrates Community Stitchers WA's dedication to crafting joy and comfort for those in need across Western Australia.

The $5,000 award will significantly bolster their incredible efforts, enabling them to continue their mission of providing handmade items to a wide array of recipients.

Who is Community Stitchers WA?

Community Stitchers WA is a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organisation that has been hand-making and donating essential items for nearly two decades.

Founded 17 years ago, the group has grown to encompass over 80 volunteers from Geraldton in the north to Albany in the south.

They create a wide range of handmade goods including dolls, knitted blankets, baby beanies, and library bags, which are distributed to more than 60 charities, schools, hospitals, and not-for-profits across the state.

Their mission is to spread happiness and provide comfort through their handmade creations, ensuring that even those who have little receive something crafted with care and love.

The volunteers' efforts range from making baby blankets for families arriving in Perth with nothing, to colourful dolls for children at the Perth Children's Hospital.

How They Achieve This

Fundraising: Engaging in market stalls and selling some products to raise funds for materials like fabric and sewing machines.

Volunteering: Mobilising a community of volunteers dedicated to making a difference through their crafting skills.

Providing Resources: Ensuring access to handmade items for children, families, and individuals in need.
