Featured as House of the Week in the Hobart Mercury, Helms Bay Cottage in Tasmania's Gardners Bay pays homage to its yacht racing history.
The 1880-built farmhouse at 6863 Channel Highway features the original racing hull (the boat’s replica since rebuilt) of what was once one of Australia's fastest racing yachts in the 1960's. Built in Norway in 1924 and known as Varg, the 8m yacht dominated competitions at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron for almost 50 years, with the the original hull now finding its resting place at the Gardners Bay property.
Selling agent Georgie Rayner from The Agency Hobart says the the tranquil north facing aspect of the home is calming, with the property attracting interest from people looking for a change in lifestyle.
