The key to designing the perfect guest bedroom is creating a warm and inviting space that makes your visitors feel right at home. In Sunday night’s episode of The Block, Carla and Bianca took home the win by just half a point. In the end, it was the little details that won the judges over.
The girls’ room was the last to be judged on the night, but the judges instantly praised it, commenting that the styling told a story and helped to sell a dream.
“I have one word for this room – and that word is hallelujah!” said Neale Whitaker.
"If I was checking into a luxury hotel in St Kilda tonight, this is what I would expect to see."
Bianca and Carla’s guest bedroom gave us a sneak peek into the penthouse’s future look and feel, focusing on bespoke furnishings and continuing their trademark timber-panelled ceiling.
“We got such great feedback about our timber ceiling and timber vanity from our bathroom, so we wanted to incorporate it somehow,” says Bianca. The girls used the same celling featured in the main bathroom but have included a white shadow line instead of the black to balance the room.
Neale commended the rich colour palette of blue and pink, while Shaynna Blaze applauded the bedside lights and custom-made, floating bedside tables, created by Ingrain Designs in Collingwood.
"Someone has finally given us a room that feels modern and luxurious and glamorous and absolutely on-brief for the building that we’re in,” said Neale. “This room feels like it belongs in 2018. It's simple, and right on the money aesthetically."
Stepping into the generous walk-in wardrobe, Neale said “it feels beautifully bespoke.”
"The materiality of this is phenomenal,” added Darren Palmer of the dark finish and brass details. “It's just so good."
“Obviously as girls – who doesn’t want a massive mirror!” laughs Bianca. “So, we ordered a three-metre mirror and it really accentuates the size of the walk-in robe.”
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. “We didn’t start painting until 6pm on Saturday night and we didn’t realise how tough this was going to make it for us,” reflects Bianca. “We finished painting around 8am and only gave ourselves an hour to bring the bed and furnishings in and style. Ridiculous. Hopefully it never comes down to that again.”
Stay tuned, next week the girls tackle ensuites.
