Each night across Australia, more than 116,000 people experience homelessness. This is a distressing statistic, equating to one in every 200 people. In Western Australia alone, on any given night 9,055 people are forced to sleep on the streets or in their cars as a result of homelessness.
As a response to this crisis, The Agency team in Western Australia is partnering with the Vinnies Drive-In, Sleep-In, a new community event inviting families, friends, community and local businesses to step out of their comfort zone and spend one night sleeping in their car.
Held on Friday October 12, at the Galaxy Drive-In at Kingsley, the event aims to raise awareness and much-needed funds to support people at risk of experiencing homelessness.
Funds raised will help to provide people with vital access to food, clothing, accommodation assistance and emotional support. This includes funding 240 bed nights over the next year to support people experiencing chronic long-term homelessness.
Housing is a basic human right and we have a collective responsibility to help end and prevent homelessness.
By taking part and giving one night of your time, you too can help make a difference.
