Historical Notes: Woodbine was originally part of a larger property known as Rockfield, purchased by an Irish immigrant named Owen MacAleer in 1841. He built "Rockfield Inn" in the late 1850's located near the existing woolshed. The Inn serviced travellers along the north road to Bathurst. It operated until 1874 under MacAleer as licenced landlord. A notable recorded event was a visit by the Bushranger Ben Hall and his gang in 1864. They had earlier that day robbed the Sydney Mail Coach before moving to MacAleer's Inn, where they shouted food and wine to all present – and paid for it! A few cut stones mark the site of the inn today.
