The nominations for Best of the West keep rolling in. Last month, the honor went to Ambulance Wish WA, but who will be this month’s Best of the West?

You’ll have to find out this Sunday 23 October during 9News at 6pm, when we announce our next winner. In the meantime, we’d like to introduce you to two special organisations nominated by our very own agents here at The Agency.

Have your say in this month’s competition by nominating someone you think deserves it, or support one of the following nominees by nominating them yourself.

What: Best of the West, Sponsored by The Agency and 9News

Where: 9News

When: Sunday 23 October during 9News at 6pm, and every 4th Sunday after that

Corroboree For Life

The Agency’s Rebekah Moore is proud to nominate Corroboree For Life for October’s Best of the West!

Corroboree For Life founder Ash Penfold, a proud local Nyoongar man, noticed that when his aborigial community gathered together, it was usually in relation to something disempowering: funerals and protests for example.

So he created Corroboree For Life in 2014 as a way for his community to rally around something positive: dance, art and performance. They offer a range of services including dance workshops, youth programs, contemporary cultural dance performances and acknowledgement of country.

Penfold says their main focus is on youth empowerment, and on raising awareness around mental health and lowering the suicide rates in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Corroboree for Life does this by providing a platform where all community members, especially the youth, can experience their culture, language and identity.

Penfold says if Corroboree for Life is named Best of the West, the $5,000 award will go toward travel and material expenses that allow the group to reach more people.

You can help Corroboree for Life by throwing another nomination their way. Just follow this link to nominate them or someone else you think is deserving.

K9 Rescue Group

The Agency’s Troy Richardson rescued his dog around 7 years ago, which is why he’s proud to give his nomination to the non-profit that matched him with his pup: K9 Rescue!

K9 Rescue is a not-for-profit that not only cares for and rehome dogs, but also educates the community about responsible dog ownership and the importance of creating an environment where a dog is treated as a rightful and respected member of the community.

With over 100 volunteers, K9 Rescue re-homes 400 dogs every year. That’s a whole lot of dogs rescued when you consider K9 Rescue has been around since 1990!

President Jake King says the $5,000 award would go a long way toward vet bills, dog training and all the expenses required to rehabilitate and rehome orphaned dogs.
If you'd like to help K9 Rescue win this award, you can nominate them too! Just follow this link to nominate them or someone else you think deserves it.

Folks who work tirelessly at the local food bank.

Group of children planting trees for a sustainable future.

Individual who is suffering from an illness, but still takes time to raise awareness and help others in a similar situation.

Whoever it is, you can nominate them by clicking the button below. Nominate as many individuals, organisations or community groups that you want. Just be sure to explain what makes them so special and why they deserve this award.
