Best of the West: Leone Parmenter | The Agency

Congrats to breast cancer survivor Leone Parmenter, our newest Best of the West!

Huge congrats to Leone Parmenter, our latest Best of the West! Parmenter will receive $5,000 to continue all the fantastic work she’s doing to help women bounce back after breast cancer surgery.

Best of the West is a celebration of Western Australia’s difference makers: those using their time, talent and treasure to make a difference in their WA communities. Tune in Sunday 27th November at 6pm during 9News to find out who will be the next Best of the West, or nominate someone yourself by following the link at the bottom of this page.

Who is Leone Parmenter?

Leone is a breast cancer survivor who works tirelessly to help breast cancer survivors bounce back after surgery.

She offers a free 8-week course called YWCA Encore, an exercise-based program designed to increase strength and mobility through land- and water-based exercises. The program also brings in guest speakers who educate these women on a variety of health and well-being topics.

“By the time week 8 comes, they blossom. They've got the confidence back!”, Leone said about the program.

But that’s not all Leone does to give back. She also volunteers at Reclaim Your Curves, a registered charity that helps women plan their life after breast cancer, specifically those seeking breast reconstruction.

The importance of getting tested

57 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each day across Australia, so early detection and regular checks are critical. If you’re a woman over the age of 40, you’re entitled to a free mammogram every 2 years under the BreastScreen Australia Program.

You can book your free mammogram here.

Once again, we received so many great nominations, but quotes like this helped nudge Lenoe Parmenter into the winner’s circle in October.

‘Leone Parmenter is so deserving of this. She is a breast cancer survivor and now dedicates her time counselling women going on this terrible journey. She runs exercise classes for post-surgery women, speaks at forums openly about her experiences, makes herself available day and night for anyone needing support... she is amazing, selfless, so supportive and so humble. Please consider her.’

We want to extend a heartfelt congrats to Leone, as well as the other deserving individuals and organisations nominated. If you nominated someone and they weren’t chosen, don’t worry. They’ll remain in the running throughout the duration of this campaign.
