A four-bedroom home at 14 Manson Road in Strathfield in Sydney's Inner West sold for $1.65 million at auction and was the week's most intriguing sale as covered by the Financial Review How it Sold section.
Sold through The Agency's Greg Emerton, the sale was unusual given the land size of the property - a 265sqm block as compared to the average 700sqm block for the suburb. The heritage home was purchased by a buyer from Western Sydney wanting to get into the Strathfield market.
"There is quite a limited market when you’ve got a heritage home with major restrictions," said Mr Emerton.
"What you generally find is 97 per cent of people who inquire and come through shy away from those sorts of properties. They’re in the all-too-hard basket.
"But we ended up guiding $1.5 million and got $1.65 million. It’s the affordability of a freestanding house that looked attractive to them. It’s more a townhouse price essentially."
