Interview with Sara James, Director at Perth Style Company

Buying a home isn’t really just about the size of the bedrooms, the stone tops in the kitchen or even the beautiful backyard. Instead, as we so often see, it's all about the feeling someone gets when walking into the home, and most importantly, whether they can see themselves living there. One of the best ways to make this happen is to use a carefully curated styling concept to stage the home. To talk about how this works, host Jon Williams caught up with Director of Perth Style Company, Sara James.

Jon Williams: Sara, how do you help people prepare their homes for sale?

Sara James: Jon, we work with the home seller in conjunction with the real estate agent. Generally, the seller will move out for the month, taking their family, their kids, their dog… And then we come in and stage the vacant home for sale: bringing in all the furniture, the finishes and ensuring that it not only looks good online, but that people fall in love with it when they come to view the home.

Jon Williams: So why do you think it's so important to stage your home when selling?

Sara James: Well with the staging furniture, it's highly thought out. It's not just about bringing in a few cushions and making things look good. We utilize the space to ensure that all of the beautiful finishes are creating opulence. In that display kind of home, we're not just having the owners' things here and there; it's about overall increasing the sale price of the home and utilizing the spaces to add as much value as possible.
